The Sino-Russian Joint Research Institute successfully launched
On December 11, 2014, East China Normal University successfully launched the Sino-Russian Joint Research Institute and its first talented-youth workshop, on the theme of the “Eurasian Moment” in world politics which attracted scholars from China, Russia, and Germany. Dr. Zhang Xin chaired the opening ceremony for the workshop. Professor Bei Wenli (deputy director of SAIAS), Professor Marina Kukartseva (from the Foreign Affairs College of the Russian Foreign Ministry), and Dr. Sebastain Schiek (from the Peace and Security Policy Institute of the University of Hamburg) attended the ceremony. The workshop included nine members from seven Chinese universities and three Russian members.
The Sino-Russian Joint Research Institute was set up in December 2014, with an eye to promoting comprehensive, high-level exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia in humanities and social sciences. It will provide young scholars in both countries with a vital base for conducting research, broadening academic outlook, and deepening understanding of their native and other neighboring countries’ academic traditions. It aims to produce a team of talented young academics committed to Sino-Russian cooperation in international academia, as well as the expansion of Chinese and Russian cultural influence on the international stage.
